Bulrush Horticulture was the first manufacturer of substrates in the world to be awarded BS EN ISO 9001:2008.
Traceability and analysis.
Modern, large scale crop production depends on the use of consistent quality substrates. In order to satisfy the demands of various grower accreditation schemes and to fulfil the requirements of Bulrush’s own QA protocols, we provide complete traceability on the ingredients of all products.
Production samples of all finished products are for at least a year after the production date so that performance issues may be fully investigated.
We can also provide full laboratory analysis of substrates supplied to provide information to the grower on initial nutrient levels and allow for planning of subsequent nutritional programmes.
Unique Batch Mixing Procedure.
Bulrush is the only UK manufacturer to use a unique batch mixing system to ensure a high standard of consistency and traceability on all mixes. There is no more accurate mixing method available and when the product has to perform to the highest expectations then this production method really provides exceptional levels of control and quality.
After sales and technical support.
Unlike other suppliers, Bulrush offers a complete after sales service not only from the regional area managers but from the technical team. We also do an awful lot of pre crop planning –ie substrate design to suite system- followed by analysis of the freshly made substrates for QA purposes and then after sales services.

The technical team is run by Neil Bragg, the internationally renowned substrate expert. Neil and Ann McCann offer a complete back up service to all professional substrates. This includes nursery visits, sample collection, analysis and interpretation of results with recommendations on the need for feeding. They also arrange for specific individual experts in pathology and entomology to be available to customers to both plan necessary spray programs and to scout crops. For longer terms crops such as poinsettia the group offers a complete monitoring service- pre-made substrate analysis, substrate analysis through the life of the crop and plant tissues analysis. This scheme run since 1998 has proved invaluable to growers.
